Hello, this is your blogger speaking. We’re cruising into episode four of Lifetime’s Love at First Flight, a show which has strangers paired up in New York, criss crossing the country for a month, then deciding whether or not they want to get hitched when they land in Los Angeles at the end.
The couples were sent to Sedona last week, and that’s where we’re catching up with them now, on day 10 of the show. OG Stephanie and Ryan are are the first to get the text message of truth- they’re headed to Denver! Ryan is so excited. As you may recall, he may want to move to Colorado, but Stephanie won’t consider living anywhere but her native New York City. Alma and Mike are also ready to head to Denver, as Alma mimics smoking a joint. Jenna and Cale. Every time I see Jenna, I make a face and feel so bad for Cale that he is stuck with her. Did the matchmakers actually think this would work or did they knowingly set out to torture Cale because the show needed a villain? Jenna is actually excited about this destination, which is the first thing she’s been positive about this entire time, so that’s something, I guess. She does a fake laugh, and they’re off! Other Stephanie and Michael are doing some kind of odd rap at the airport. Umm ok. OS says Michael is a good balance for her, he helps her let loose a little bit.
Mike gets a text “get ready to feel exposed tomorrow.” He hopes it has something to do with photography, Alma is worried is has something to do with nudity. Ryan’s text says “get ready to get a little dirty,” which OG Stephanie posits may have to do with mud wrestling. Cale’s text says they’ll have to “chip away the rough exterior,” and Michael’s says they’ll have to “stretch (their) limbs.” As OG Stephanie and Ryan are driving along, she is making a face and questioning the fact that he actually wants to live there. She wants him to be more open to Long Island even though she is super open to Colorado, which has a bad energy and can only be related to Columbine and the Aurora movie theatre shooting. She is obviously very open to Colorado. He looks at her in utter disbelief. She says she will tell him at the end of the trip how she feels about Colorado but wants to wait until they spend time there, he wants impressions as they go along.
It’s time for the couples to start their challenges. Remember, depending on how they do and how well they work together, they’re either staying somewhere great or somewhere sucko. First up, Jenna and Cale. They’re meeting a lady named Faye, who also goes by “Chainsaw Mama.” They’re going to be carving a love totem out of a stump with a chainsaw. Jenna is confused that Cale is being more quiet, but he says he doesn’t know how to communicate with someone who has so much hostility towards him. Fair. They need to finish by sunset to get the good place to stay. “I’m always excited to be a bad bitch,” Jenna says, “I think I look sexier with a power tool.” As they carve, he says the totem looks like them, with a lot of “trials and tribulations,” and she gets all mad about it. They move on to the blowtorch stage. “I might just light the whole log on fire,” Jenna says, “love totem up in flames.” This is obviously going very well. Chainsaw Mama says they need to add something to the log for the future, something positive. They somehow manage to pull it off and win the challenge. I can pretty much guarantee they’re going to have a blowout fight later.
Michael and Other Stephanie are on a trail. They need to climb a tree and collect five
medallions to get their luxury hotel for the night. OS is mad, but they’re sleeping outdoors if they can’t manage it. Their leader guy says “we have kids that climb those trees.” And Stephanie replies stone-faced “No need to be in- no need to be no need to go there.” Michael is laughing. She gets strapped into her harness and away she goes. Michael follows her up and guides her onto a sturdy limb. She says she’s too scared to move, so Michael gets 4 of the 5 medallions. He helps her get the fifth. “Every strong woman wants to be led by a stronger male is what I think,” she says. (Yaaaas). They had a breakthrough! It was pretty cute.
Ryan and OG Stephanie are driving when they get a text telling them to “get ready to wade into tricky waters.” They turn into a reptile park, and Stephanie starts yelling and saying she just won’t do it, even though she says she’s working on the fear she has. She’s crying she’s so scared, but Ryan is trying to get her to try. She seems to have a lot of fears, right? So, Ryan gets into the tank to help the guy catch the injured little guys that need their medicine. OG Stephanie is freaking out. She finally agreed to help hold the tail of and put ointment on an alligator that was already immobilized, so they got the suite. She said Ryan makes her feel safe and like she can do anything. Say it with me- awwwww.
Other Stephanie and Michael are having a nice talk about Jesus. She’s happy to hear what he’s saying, it makes her think he’s authentic, when she had been concerned it might just be a fad for him. She thinks that the might be building a strong foundation for marriage, y’all!
Alma and Mike are somewhere snowy, and the text says they’re doing something “revealing.” Oh, they’re in Estes Park! It’s an ATV scavenger hunt- with a twist. Each thing they find is going to have a challenge inside where they have to reveal their innermost thoughts to each other. That’s a little touchy-feely for me, but whatever. I guess if you’re going to get married in 30 days, you have to do this manufactured nonsense. The first question is “what worries you the most about me” and she hits him with “if I’m ever going to feel the chemistry again.” DAMN, ALMA. He’s worried about them being in different cities. Next up- something that makes up feel vulnerable. She talks about her father emotionally abandoning her. He says it takes him a long time to fully open up to someone, and she disappointed. She wanted to hear something juicy that would make her feel that connection again. Question 3- biggest regret. His is not moving away after college. She doesn’t think that’s big enough. Question 4- what’s the most embarrassing moment in your life? When he was an altar boy, he passed out during Mass. She doesn’t think that’s embarrassing enough. It doesn’t dive into his soul, she says. The last one says that they get to finish these conversations at the Stanley Hotel, so I guess that means they one. The Stanley Hotel is bomb. Also, the hotel The Shining is based on. They, apparently, don’t know anything about it.
On day 13, OG Stephanie and Ryan are headed to lunch? Dinner? Anyways, OGS says she likes oysters, so Ryan says he’ll order her Rocky Mountain oysters. Does he know those are bull testicles? I honestly don’t know if he knows that. They seem confused because they’re fried. Oh dear. Ryan says he thinks they’ve got a good thing going and asks Stephanie if she has any concerns. Her big concern is age. She’s 29 and he’s 26. She’s worried he’s not ready to get married. Remember a generation ago, when everyone was married with multiple children by 26. They would be ashamed of us. He seems overly upset about it, though. He wishes that she’d brought it up before. The waitress comes over and tells them that they’re eating bull testicles, Stephanie freaks out, and they move on.
Jenna and Cale area headed to a spa, which probably has no bull testicles. While they do their ionic foot bath, Jenna mentions that its weird that they have nothing to talk about and asks if this has been a problem with other women. Cale says it has not. They move on to a salt cave where they are to sit together for 50 minutes. This is going to be torture for them.
WHAT IS ALMA WEARING? Anyway, Alma and Mike are having a meal at the Stanley Hotel where Alma is wearing whatever it is that she’s wearing and she says that she feels like she’s doing all of the work and Mike puts distance between them every time they get closer. Mike sees she is kind of at a breaking point, so he opens up to her rather than risk losing her.
Michael and Stephanie are having high tea, which is something she does with her mom and sisters regularly. She has the whole “where are we now?” Conversation with him. He says he thinks there’s something there, and she agrees. And then there’s Jenna and Cale. They can’t stand each other and, for this week, we leave it there.

Finally caught up! Ryan seems to have a thing where he thinks OG Stephanie needs to share every thought she has with him, as soon as she has it…any later is just not good enough. I did like how she overcame her fears with the alligator. I couldn’t really focus on what Alma was saying at dinner, because that awful blue/black lipstick was just too distracting. Hoping that Michael and Other Stephanie move to something physical…I also liked how she overcame her fear with the tree. Jenna looks like Anne Hathaway; Cale continues his quest for sainthood.
