It’s Friday!
Allow me to introduce you to Italian superstar Rita Pavone. She was a pop and rock star, first in her native Italy and later, internationally. She scored her first hit in 1963 at the age of 17 with a tune called “La partita di pallone” (“The Soccer Game,” or, I suppose, “The Football Game” in Europeanese.) From 1965 to 1970, she guested frequently on The Ed Sullivan Show and during her career, she performed with entertainers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jones, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Whitney Houston and Cher.
You can find many of Pavone’s performances on the internet where, as in this clip, she’s usually bouncing off the walls. The woman was a ball of energy. Happily she’s still with us, though I imagine she’s less energetic now. She’ll celebrate her 71st birthday this August. If you’d like to know more about her, for heaven’s sake don’t consult her official website.
