It’s Friday!
Here we are, back on the beach with last week’s featured artist Bobby Vee. This week, however, it’s not a cheesy daytime romp on the beach with a bevy of disinterested, bikini-clad young women using playground equipment. No. It’s “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes.” He has a girlfriend in this one and it’s dark on the beach. Subsequently, there’s a lot more sexual innuendo. Don’t see it? Don’t worry. I have a dirty mind and I’ll explain it all.
First there’s Bobby himself. Nothing there, really. With his bland Ken doll looks and goofy expressions, he’s as sexually threatening as a wet Nerf ball. But then there’s his girlfriend. We’re introduced to her as just a pair of kicking legs. There are a lot of kicking legs in this video. These teenagers have just one thing on their mind. Eventually, Bobby’s girlfriend runs over to sit on his big, red, riding machine and kick up her legs. Come on. It’s all so obvious. Then there are the Speedo-wearing muscle boys, any one of whom could have broken Bobby over their knee if they chose to do so. Instead, they chase, paw and carry the women over their shoulders like cavemen. The finale has Vee riding off for some private time with his girl…followed by two other guys! What’s going on there?
Pure filth, that’s what it is.
I actually like this song a lot. It’s classic 60s pop. It hit #3 on the Billboard Top 100 chart in 1962.
Bobby Vee is still with us at age 73. He married at the height of his fame (1963) and he and his wife Karen had celebrated 51 years of marriage before she passed away just a year ago. They had four children.
I don’t think that’s her on the bike.
Have a groovy weekend!
