I have a thing for Claire’s (nod to House of Cards).. But Claire Elise Boucher is my dream electro-pop queen. Claire -who goes by the stage name Grimes- is not only a singer, songwriter, performer; she also produces her own music. She is very much invested in her music, and it shows.
Coming up through the DIY underground scene in Montreal, she slowly clawed her way out of obscurity into the mainstream. Attending after hour sets with her Dj buddies, she became drawn to make her own music and her own unique sound.
Grimes released her latest album in January of 2015 appropriately titled “Art Angel”. That album was met with little fanfare despite her live shows selling out weeks in advance. Despite her latest efforts to stay relevant Grimes has been on my radar for several years. Ever since seeing her NPR performance back in 2012 Ive been hooked. She performed both of my favorite songs from her 2012 Album “Visions”: Be a Body and Genesis. This is when I realized she had something special. I was sucked in. Her wispy almost baby like voice is something you would think would get old or at the very least annoying.. But it works, she owns it. It’s intoxicating. It’s mesmerizing. It’s beautiful. If I’m going to let myself get caught up in white girl electro-pop, Grimes is my girl.
