It’s Friday!
The word “groovy” may not the be the first word that comes to mind when you think of legendary singer and actress Dorothy Lamour, but like many aging stars during the 1960s, she found her way into one of the classic beach films produced by American International Pictures. Here she is in “Pajama Party,” looking gorgeous and gamely trying her hand at the modern dances that drive today’s kids wild, including “The Swim.” I think she acquits herself nicely. She’s a pro.
Have a groovy weekend!
Groovy Friday extras!
Can’t leave it there. Here’s Dorothy Lamour at her best, singing the classic “Perfidia”. What a voice.
Of course, Dorothy Lamour was best known for her role as straight woman/love interest to Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in the “Road” films. “Road to Rio” is one of their best. In addition to Hope, Crosby and Lamour it features The Andrew Sisters, Jerry Colona, Gale Sondergaard and a lot of other people you’ve never heard of who are long gone. According to IMDb and I quote, “Contains one of the earliest (and repeated) uses of the word ‘groovy’ in film, predating its 1947 use in advertising spots for the film ‘Miracle on 34th Street’”.
I doubt many of you will watch the whole thing, but if you do, I have no doubt you’ll laugh.
“You’re in the groove, Jackson!”
