Groovy Friday – Ladies and Gentleman, Arnold Dorsey

It’s Friday!

Arnold George Dorsey was born in 1936 in what was then British India. His family moved to Leicester, England ten years later. It wasn’t until twenty years later, after several failed attempts at a recording career, that Arnold Dorsey reconnected with a former roommate who had become a successful manager and promoter. He convinced Dorsey to start fresh by changing his name and suggested that of 19th century German composer Engelbert Humperdinck. The rest is history.

Engelbert has scored many hits throughout a career that has lasted over fifty years, including “Release Me,” “Spanish Eyes,” “After the Lovin’” and this song, “Quando, Quando, Quando.” We’ve heard it before here at Groovy Friday, a delightful version from the scintillating Kessler Twins. Here’s Arnie…rather, Engelbert performing it as host of The Hollywood Palace. He’s a bit stiff and he messes up on his lip-syncing at 00:53, but it’s still a pretty groovy outing.

Engelbert Humperdinck is still alive and he still performs, God bless him.

Have a groovy weekend!

  1. Sorry I missed this…but just so you know, someone we all know and love (Kellie Jane Adan) was born in the same hospital at the very same time as one of Engelbert’s children:-) Well maybe not to the exact minute;-) Not fake news btw…. I was the one in labor! lol
