It’s Friday!
Summer is still going, technically, so let’s have one last summer re-run. This clip was originally posted in the early weeks of Groovy Friday, roughly two years ago, a time when I provided no comments. Allow me to correct that now.
Audrey Arno was a German born singer and actress who achieved her greatest fame in France during the 1960s. She scored her only U.S. chart hit (#85 on the Top 100) with “La Pachanga,” a Latin-tinged piece she recorded in Germany. During the height of her fame, she lived in Paris, but in the early 1970s, she moved to Las Vegas to perform in a version of the “Moulin Rouge.”
OK. This is all from Wikipedia. From my own experience, I believe “Moulin Rouge” refers to the show at the old Las Vegas Hilton, “Bal de Moulin Rouge.” I saw that show.
I don’t remember seeing Audrey Arno.
Here she performs the Cole Porter classic “I Love Paris” in both French and English.
While doing my research this week, the name of Audrey’s hit “La Pachanga” set off a light bulb. Sure enough, I found it in my “groovy” file, but I didn’t run it here because I thought it was not so much groovy as, well, Moulin Rouge. Here it is.
Have a groovy weekend!
