It’s Friday!
Liz Brady was a Brit Ye-Ye girl, a Carnaby Street groove chick with deep Anglo roots.
But she wasn’t
She wasn’t British. She was born Raymonde Fleurat in Heliopolisin, a suburb of Egypt to a French father and a half Greek half Italian mother. She spoke four languages before adding English to her repertoire in her teens when her father’s job took the family to Kenya. After several successful stage appearances, she decided to pursue a career in music. She signed a contract with the French label “Pathe.” Because she spoke French with an English accent, they fabricated a British/French personality for her.
It’s all a lie.
Her one hit was this, La Palladium, and it was only a hit in Europe. That’s cool. Big in Europe is good and she rocks.
