It’s Friday!
Anna Mae Bullock was born on November 26, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee and grew up to be Tina Turner. There’s really not much else to say. Singer, song-writer, actress, dancer, author, Buddhist, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, citizen of Switzerland; Tina has been a major star for over four decades. Her autobiography “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” chronicled her abuse at the hands of then husband Ike Turner and was turned into a hit film. If you’re interested in the sordid details, the book and movie are the best place to find them. I won’t re-hash them here.
After her divorce from Ike, she went on to have a very successful solo career, recording hit albums, winning several Grammys and appearing as Auntie Entity opposite Mel Gibson in “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.” I love that movie.
“Ain’t we a pair, raggedy man?”
Here’s Tina performing her classic version of the Credence Clearwater Revival hit “Proud Mary.” That’s Ike, calm in the background in his light blue suit and Sonny Bono hairstyle. Tina works her legendary gams with groovy abandon.
When once asked by People magazine about her famous legs, Turner confessed, “Sometimes when I’m out on stage I feel like a pony on stilts.”
Hardly.
Have a groovy weekend!
