    Clang, clang, end of the line. That’s all there is, there ain’t no more. You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.

    I’m not just speaking of 2017. This week, after two plus years of shaking hips, wagging heads, knee-high boots, sky-high hairdos and candy-colored musical numbers, the curtain rings down on Groovy Friday. We’ve had a lot of fun over the past 28 months and we’ve learned a lot along the way. Don’t believe me?     It’s been my pleasure to be your guide through this world of grooviness. I’d like to thank everyone at Phantom Sway for the opportunity to do this, with special kudos to Phantom Jim, who has been responsible for the entire look of Groovy Friday as well as its swingin’ gifs.

    And now, our finale.

    I’ve been holding this clip for the very end because it’s the grooviest. You may not agree with that assessment and I understand. I myself run hot and cold on director/choreographer Bob Fosse. I appreciate his talent, but I’m not fond of the tics and hiccups and jazz hands and head tilts and other annoying elements of his style. But I dig this number and this version of it is crisp, clear and widescreen. It’s “The Rich Man’s Frug” from the film version of the Broadway musical “Sweet Charity.” The musical is based on the Federico Fellini film “Nights of Cabiria” and in this number, Fosse dives head first into Felliniville. I particularly love the lead dancer and the way she works that ponytail. The music, the wigs, the sets, the guys walking around like they have corn cobs up their butts…all in all, it seems a fitting way to end the year as well as our time here at Groovy Friday.
