Once upon a time, Darleen Click who wrote at the defunct Protein Wisdom blog would find a photo, post it on the site, wrote a 100-word story to go with the photo, then challenge anyone who wanted to do the same. I came across one of her posts in 2015, and wrote, “On Storm Day”, the first story I’d written since I was a twenty-something and decided I didn’t have what it took to be a professional author. A whole bunch of flash fiction stories later, I’m still writing.
What does that have to do with you? Glad you asked. We at Phantom Sway thought the idea was cool and since the original blog isn’t around anymore, we’re doing our own thing with the idea. See that picture there, with the dudes standing outside what may or may not be a snow cave? That’s your prompt. We want you to write a 100-word story inspired by that picture. Any style. Any genre. The only limit is 100 words — no one word more or less!
Post your story in the comments or at your own blog or Facebook page with a link back to our post here. That’s it. No prizes except the feeling you get when you show off your writing chops or maybe the rekindled desire to become a writer. Sound good? Good.
