My first exposure to Frank Sinatra was when he showed up in Warner Brothers’ cartoons. Remember how that skinny jazz guy who could hide behind a mic stand or had to be in an iron lung because he was so skinny would slay all those females chickens? They’d get all woozy and wail “Fraaaaaankie!’ then melt into puddles. Good times.
Later on, I discovered Frank Sinatra for real and learned why he was such an iconic character, even back then, when he was just the skinny kid who fronted the band for Harry James or Tommy Dorsey. This week’s playlist is all about Sinatra, live and in the studio, early and late, slow and swinging. Put it on shuffle and enjoy.
