Last time, things got weird. I’m pretty much not speaking to Cale anymore, and Ryan isn’t speaking to OG Stephanie. Vegas, man. I’m honestly afraid to find out what happens this week.
Speak of the devil, we start with OG Stephanie and Ryan, who is very excited to be leaving Las Vegas. She hits him with “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” They’re heading to the emerald city which, apparently, is Seattle. Did everyone know that but me. OK, other Stephanie didn’t know that, either, when she gets her text. Cale figures it out, but didn’t appear to know off the top of his head. Alma gets a call from her mom that she has fallen and has a concussion. She’s really close with her mom and is pretty upset. Michael gives her a nice snuggle, and they’re going to go to Chicago to see Alma’s mom instead of going to Seattle. Say it with me “awwww.”
By now, you know how this works. Each couple is going to get a challenge. If they do a good job and work together, they get to stay somewhere cool and luxurious. If they don’t, they’re staying somewhere not-so-great. First up, OG Stephanie and Ryan. They’re doing some rally car racing thing, but then the rally car guy tells them that their backseat drivers are there…their parents. Whaaaaat? Yep, it’s time to meet the parents.
He told her parents about the Magic Mike show, which was kind of weird, and told them that he was over it, which he clearly isn’t. They didn’t race their cars fast enough, either, so they’re staying in a motel.
Oh, look, Jenna is complaining. There’s a knock on Jenna’s door, and it’s Cale’s mom and sister. There’s a knock on Cale’s door and it’s Jenna’s mom and sister. Cale says to camera “I have so many questions like ‘why is Jenna the way she is?'” OK, maybe I’m still speaking to Cale. Jenna’s sister Lauren also seems terrible. They as “do you like her?” and he answers “Uuuh. It’s been really tough.” At this moment, I am still speaking to Cale. It is decided.
They get texts saying they’re going to some boat. On the drive there, Cale’s mom tells Cale to kiss Jenna to find out if there are any sparks. Don’t do it, Cale. Jenna is saying to Cale’s family that he’s going to be so excited to see them. Do you think they hate her vocal fry as much as I do? I think they do.
On the boat, Cale’s mom is nauseated and he tells her to put her game face on. That’s also how the Warne family rolls. Jenna thinks he isn’t being supportive. Listen, not everybody is hyper emotional about everything all the time, JENNA. Damn.
Other Stephanie and Michael are going on a scavenger hunt where they are each shopping for the other person. To help them, they’ve got family members helping, too. Stephanie’s sister and mom, Michael’s sister and dad. OG Stephanie’s mom is not going easy on Michael, but he is rolling with it. Michael’s sister is being tough on OG Stephanie, too, though. They each get the other family’s seal of approval, which means they get the luxury accommodations. Hooray!
Things are a little different for Cale and Alma, since Alma’s mom isn’t well. Alma is very close to her family so, if they don’t like Mike, that’s a problem. He shows up with “get well soon” flowers, which she loves. Her mom pretty much immediately hits him with “how do you think things are going? Alma can tell that her mom likes Mike, so she feels even more confident about the relationship and it’s “pretty damn special.” The both rate the meeting a 10. He wants her mom to cook for him now.
Time for Jenna and Cale to do some maneuver with the sailboat while the families watch. If the can pull it off, they get the good hotel. They did it! Lunchtime. Jenna tells her family that Cale isn’t giving them a fair shot and won’t go deep with her. COME ON.
Ryan is getting some one-on-one time with his mom. He says he’s proudly a “mama’s boy” which is worrying. He starts telling his mom about the whole Vegas thing. He thinks he put too much of his heart into it and should have held some back. OG Stephanie is with her parents and they’re asking her about the show. Her parents think she didn’t act disrespectfully and sort of implies he’s gay? They’re mad at Ryan for questioning if he wanted to bail at that point, too. Mom says “I think he’s probably a terrific guy for somebody else.” Geez.
OG Stephanie’s turn to be alone with her family. They love Michael and that’s fairly unexpected. She’s so relieved. Michael’s turn. His family is a little more reserved in their endorsement. His sister thinks that, since they’re both extroverts, they’re going to be vying for attention. Michael thinks that the families going together so well is a great sign for their futures, regardless of what his sister says.
I want to know what Cale says with his parents! Do we not get to see that?! Jenna and Cale are having coffee now. With less than a week left, Jenna wants to know if they can still try, and Cale says he’s willing to do so. Ugh. She says she hit rock bottom like a year ago and that’s why she’s so overly expressive. Is that what she calls being closed-off and mean?
The next day, Michael and Other Stephanie are checking out the Chihuly glass. Over coffee, they talk about what they want to do at the end of the show, but we don’t get to see how that conversation actuallygoes. Well, that’s anti-climactic.
OG Stephanie and Ryan are chatting, too. Stephanie says she has feelings for him and wants to be with him, which is as open as she’s been with Ryan. He doesn’t know if he can be more than friends. And that’s where the episode ends.
So, am I still speaking to Cale? Yes. Tentatively.
