Five Movies All Men Should Watch To Understand Women Better

Ever said to yourself, “I just don’t get women!!”?

Well, here’s a handy-dandy listicle to give you a little insight. Five movies every man should watch to understand women a little bit better.

Bridget Jones’ s Diary

The Plot: Bridget Jones is a neurotic, indecisive, single woman in her 30s who begins to keep a diary in hopes of taking more control of her life.

What You’ll Learn: All women have a less dramatic version of Bridget Jones living in their head and a lot of the behaviors men might find strange/annoying really just boil down to our insecurities about things that are out of our control. And also we all secretly wish we were disciplined enough to keep a diary.

The Devil Wears Prada

The Plot: A frumpy, awkward college graduate lands the unenviable job as the receptionist/assistant to the bitchy, cold-hearted editor of the world’s most famous fashion magazine. In the process she learns about herself as she transforms from awkward girl to confident fashionista.

What You’ll Learn: Women in the workplace can be competitive with each other and and be real bitches about it. Also, like Anne Hathaway’s main character, we’re a work in progress and we reserve the right to change our minds about who we are as we change and mature.

The Color Purple

The Plot: The Color Purple is a story about a woman’s life of abuse, hardship, forgiveness and love over decades of her life.

What You’ll Learn: We all think we’re Celie at some point – bossed around, hurt, put-upon and forced to shut up and take it. While we certainly don’t all lead lives as desperate as hers, we all can relate to working hard to fill everyone’s needs but our own and never being recognized for it.

Mean Girls

The Plot: A teenage girl attends public school in the Illinois suburbs for the first time in her life and finds out teenage girls can be really mean and really petty.

What You’ll Learn: When we get into groups, we can turn really mean and really petty. Anyone who isn’t in our group can be subjected to our meanness and pettiness. We’ve all been the shunned or the shunner at one time or another.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle

The Plot: A psychotic woman takes a job as a nanny to a overworked couple and begins her violent, sinister plot to get rid of the wife and take her place.

What You’ll Learn: Hot-nanny-steals-husband is our worst nightmare. Replace “nanny” with anything – coworker, gym partner, work wife, neighbor – and you’ll see why sometimes we might come off as a little…possessive. There’s a Rebecca De Mornay waiting around every corner to snatch our happiness!
