Fiction Friday 100-Word Challenge: A Wasteland, Maybe?

Here is the prompt. I admit I focused on the land in the background instead of the building in the foreground for this week’s post title, but that doesn’t mean the story is in the background. It certainly could be. I mean, who knows what might be coming over those bleak hills in the distance? Could be a swarm of things. Could be…well, anything!

So tell us the story that lurks in the bright and shadow here. Remember, you get 100 words! Put your words in the comments or at your own web site with a link back to this post, please.

  1. My Great Grandpa originally put an option on this land back in the late 1800’s. There was a long held belief that a vein of silver stretched beneath the surface. Gramps made the effort, but the only things he ever struck were arthritis in his wrists and ankles and a permanently crooked spine.
Still, he never wavered in his love for the place. Years later my Dad rented it out to some Hollywood studio for a time. They built a town on it for one of their westerns.
Since then the town’s been gathering dust, thoughtfully provided by the land.
